NEW YORK - Aug. 1, 2019 - Touré, and Danielle Moodie-Mills, co-hosts of a new political podcast, democracy-ish, are wondering why black voters are still loving former V.P. "Uncle Joe" Biden and were impressed with Sens. Kamala Harris' and Cory Booker's impressive performances.
Touré, TV host, podcaster, and author & Danielle Moodie-Mills, a political columnist at Zora Magazine at Medium and the host of #WokeAF Sundays on SiriusXM, say Biden continues to look unprepared and weak on his expressing what he would do as president. Harris and Booker – along with the other candidates – jumped on Biden. But both candidates still have lots of work to do if either one is going to get the nomination.
Booker, who is polling low, attacked Biden riding President Barack Obama's coattails. "You're dippin' into the Kool-Aid and don't know the flavor," Booker said at one point.
"What I do know is that he needed to show up and show out tonight, and he did," Moodie-Mills said. "Whether or not that bumps his numbers, if it was enough, much like Pete Buttigieg last night needed to do something to stop his numbers from being stalled. I don't know if it was enough, but it sure as hell was entertaining."
Touré says Harris' performance was solid, but Tulsi Gabbard's criticism on her record as California attorney general is going to haunt her. "As she grows, as she continues on in this campaign, at some point she's going to have to reckon with what she's done," Touré said, "and the perception, and/or misperception of what it is that happened when she was attorney general in California.
Future episodes of "democracy-ish" will be available weekly. The podcast focuses on the 2020 election and offers insights from an unapologetically Black and progressive viewpoint.
