Inward Bound Mindfulness Education (iBme) Announces New Teens of Color Retreat

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. - July 25, 2019 -Now entering its 10th year, iBme (Inward Bound Mindfulness Education) kicked off its first teen retreats of the summer in Jamestown, CO and Big Bear City, CA. Retreats are planned across North America through August including Ohio and Michigan this summer, as the program continues to grow with nearly 350 teens attending summer retreats this year.

A new addition to the retreat schedule is the Teens of Color Retreat, which takes place in Big Bear City, CA from August 6-11.

Why a Retreat for Teens of Color?

For teens of color, there's an added layer. In these times, they have witnessed a lot around race. It has come up no matter how you identify. It's immediate and critical. How do you manage that? In the context of all of one's layers and identifiers, what does the current climate mean? These kids need access to their repressed thoughts and feelings, including the self-judgment. What do you do with the anger that is going to arise?

This is an opportunity to just be a 'teen of color,' to not have to worry at all about anything but being who you are and welcoming how you feel and what you think, without any concern for 'the other.'
It's for the ones who like being with their thoughts, being creative, living a little outside the box.
Mostly it's for teens of color who really want to go somewhere where they can be themselves and experience 6 days outside of the cultural and institutional harm, a time to feel into inner freedom.

iBme's curriculum guides teens and young adults in their development of self-awareness, compassion, and ethical decision making, empowering them to apply these essentials skills to their lives and communities.

About iBme
iBme formed from the foundation of a 30-year lineage of teen mindfulness which began with retreats offered in Barre, Massachusetts in 1989. It is from this foundation that Jessica Morey, co-founder and current executive director of iBme who attended her first retreat at age 14, was inspired to launch a non-profit dedicated to teaching mindfulness to young people. Since its founding in 2010, iBme has grown from a nonprofit based in Washington, DC, to an organization that holds retreats across the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
