In a push to increase supermarket take-up of healthier options for puddings, a Somerset based company, Smoojj, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the profile of its range of products which cut calories, fat, saturates and sugar by 50% compared to the average potted dessert.
With obesity on the rise and a clear link between the over consumption of sugar and a variety of medical conditions, Smoojj has developed a range of puddings, using all natural ingredients, that do not compromise consumers’ health or their taste experience.
The Smoojj crowdfunding campaign, launched this week on the Kickstarter website, aims to raise funds to help it get into supermarkets. Smoojj’ founder, Julian Davis, believes he has four great tasting puddings that are now ready to go to market, having worked on them for many months with a dedicated test team. However, to make the greatest impact on the sector, the company would like to raise further finance to enable mass production, refine branding and packaging and build marketing capacity.
The puddings include:
-Chocolate and raspberry pudding
-Passion fruit and white chocolate pudding
-Smoojjoffee
-Chocolate Orange Pudding
Davis, a baker with a passion for pudding, healthy eating and healthy ingredients has developed the Smoojj brand out of his love of great tasting food and a concern over the amount of sugar, calories and fat that seems to be the norm in today's ready to eat foods.
“We believe puddings should be delicious and luxurious, but we’ve found a way to cut the sugar and fat, along with the guilt,” says Julian, who has invested significant time and resources in proving the concept by taking his puddings out to the public via market stalls and focus groups. “The feedback so far has been outstanding, but we now need to raise the funds to take the company to the next level.”
