DELHI, India -- During the recent ‘Digital India Week’ launch that happened in Delhi, Anil Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Group, announced the Group’s decision of investing Rs 10,000 crore towards transformational initiatives across cloud, digital, and telecom space. Such initiatives are crucial as they would help the country keep pace with the rapidly evolving world.
To bolster the ‘Digital India’ programme launched by the Prime Minister, the Group would deploy next-generation content and Cloud Delivery Network (CDN) and double data centre capacity in India. Not wanting to waste a single moment, Reliance Group aims to achieve full deployment of next-generation content and CDN by the end of this year. In addition to this, the network will have five fully operational Cloud Xchange points, the first of its type in India.
“These Xchange nodes can help government departments access 240 times the amount of compute power currently available in Government data centers, and over 6 times the high speed storage currently available in India. This network will have the ability to scale up 100% every 90 days as the Digital India initiative gathers momentum and becomes a part of the daily lives of millions of Indians,” stated Anil Ambani. He also added that the success of ‘Digital India’ hinges on the availability of unlimited cloud computing power.
Anil Ambani also declared the Group’s plan of doubling the data centre capacity of Reliance Communications from 6,00,000 sq. ft. to 1.2 million sq. ft. in the next few years. The telecom arm of the Conglomerate is also India’s largest provider of data centre facilities.
A Digital Locker for every citizen is also one of the key focus points of the Digital India programme. The Group intends to launch schemes to encourage 300 million customers across various businesses of the Group to secure their own digital locker. Having signed up for this personally, it can be concluded that Anil Ambani prefers to lead by example.
