DEHRADUN, India -- Students of’ College of Legal Studies ‘at UPES, Dehradun displayed their calibre and competence at the 2nd edition of National Model United Nations (MUN) organized by National Law School, Bangalore by winning the “Best Delegate” and “High Commendation” trophies. Being the only Institute from Uttarakhand and competing against 250 participants from some of best Institutes in the country including NALSAR- Hyderabad, SRM-Chennai, VIT-Vellore, NUJS-Kolkatta & NLU-Delhi the three student team comprising of Sukhandeep Singh of BALLB - 4th year, Ms Sansha Mahajan of BALLB - 2nd Year and Aaron Mirza of BALLB - 4th year won two of the three coveted prizes of this competition.
Aaron Mirza was adjudged as the ‘Best Delegate’ of the MUN while Sukhandeep Singh was bestowed with ‘High Commendation’. Through a process of elimination an “All Indian Political Party committee “ was created out of the shortlisted participants and this committee was allowed to debate and brain storm on two of the most burning, controversial and contemporary issues of India viz The Land Acquisition Ordinance of April 2015 and Prospects and viability of an Anti-Conversion Bill. Relating their experiences the students shared that they felt enriched with this exposure and were specially appreciative about the fact that for the very first time they got an opportunity to understand and learn about two other equally important aspects of the same issue other than the Legal angle, those being the Public Policy aspect Political connotation aspects.
