AUSTIN, Texas -- Pflugerville Pets Alive! (PPA) is conducting a shoe collection drive on April 10, 2015 to May 17, 2015 to raise funds for their Medical Fund (www.pflugervillepetsalive.org/shoes-for-shelters). PPA will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will benefit a PPA medical fund for the pets of Pflugerville. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Pfenning Lane Animal Hospital, Gaston & Sheehan Realty, Wine Sensation, Law Office of Farren Smith, and all 4 locations of College Nannie + Tutors. Shoe donations are also accepted at all PPA Events (www.pflugervillepetsalive.org/calendar).
For the month of March, PPA's medical fund provided funds for Pflugerville Animal Control Pets including a life saving kidney stone surgery for Topper, a leg amputation surgery for Shakespeare, and a biopsy Joey. The medical fund also provided funds to support the pets in PPA's care. This included heartworm treatment for Daisy and Rosalee, providing basic vaccines to a litter of puppies and a kitten, and supporting Caylee through a double-enucleation surgery.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.
“We are excited about our shoe drive," said Kim Waters. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient and the pets of Pflugerville. It’s a win-win for everyone”.
By donating shoes to Pflugerville Pets Alive!, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives and more pets can have much needed surgeries to help them find loving families.
