WASHINGTON -- The Trinity Chancel Choir of Trinity Church DC will present its Annual Good Friday Concert on Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m., featuring a rendering of Theodore Dubois' setting of "The Seven Last Words of Christ." Accompanying the choir will be a small chamber orchestra, with guest organist Edmond Charles. Patrick D. McCoy, will conduct the performance, with soloists: soprano Leila Gheitu, tenor Darnell T. Roulhac and baritone Eric Brown. This annual concert is supported by The Rev'd Canon John T. W. Harmon, Rector and Pastor of Trinity Church DC, The Vestry and The Trinity Friends of Music. Trinity Church member Brion Thompson is the concert's honorary chair.
Dubois wrote many sacred works, but he also aspired to compose for the opera stage. Though the operatic aspirations did not take off, his dramatic flair is evident in the musical writing for his setting of "The Seven Last Words." The rich harmonies, fiery instrumental writing and emotional pathos all add to the popularity of this Lenten choral favorite.
This special concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
Trinity Church is located at 7500 Piney Branch Rd, NW, Washington, D.C., 20012
