Atlasbot is seeking donors to help launch our first prototype! Anyone interested in advanced 3d modles and their applications for the future should check this out! We are passionately dedicated to realizing the potential of 3D scanning technology and its diverse applications for virtual reality, augmented reality, and so much more!
A bit from our website:
Virtual reality is finally coming into fruition. It’s the topic of conversation that gets brought up when we’ve had a few drinks, and the conversation shifts towards recent developments in technology. We’ve all seen at least one or two movies that try to render this possibility in all its glory, from classics like The Matrix to Veronica Roth’s exploration of the human psyche through her series “Divergent (http://veronicarothbooks.blogspot.com/p/books.html)“.
But with even more fantastic developments in holographic technology (http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/real-time-holographic-displays-one-step-closer-to-reality), it seems like we will be moving into an augmented reality quicker than we might think. 3D models will replace digital photo frames with fully rendered depictions of our families on an occasion, reminiscent of the looped videos we saw on the walls of Star Wars characters or Hogwarts castle. But there is a major problem with the way that we currently process these 3D renderings. They usually have to be created from scratch. And unless you’ve got some serious CAD skills, the average user isn’t going to be able to play around in virtual reality with anything but what has already been created by others.
Enter Atlasbot, the first dynamically adaptable 3D scanner that seeks to bridge the gap between the virtual and the physical. With a detachable quadrotor unit (http://team-blacksheep.com/products/product:431) designed by the professionals at Team Blacksheep (http://team-blacksheep.com/), you can choose to wave the little guy around your most recent masterpiece and post it right to Facebook (where your friends can put on their headsets and see it in all its virtual glory) or fly him around your house to start envisioning those additional renovations and build everything before you spend a penny on supplies. The possibilities are endless, and the easy-to-use interface allows even the most inexperienced user to begin playing around with incredibly precise (up to 1 mm precision) models that are finally capable of convincing us, almost, that they are the real thing.
How is all of this possible? Most of the work has been done by the incredibleEuclideon (http://www.euclideon.com/), who boasted years ago that their recent breakthroughs in high-resolution scanning enabled them to circumvent the polygon barrier and render images that were precise even down to the molecule. And what do you need to get all this done? Just a 3D lidar-based scanner and their software. You don’t even need a powerhouse of a PC to run it.
Using Euclideon’s advancements in pointcloud data management, IKIOS seeks to create a whole line of adaptable 3D scanners that can begin cataloging the endless supply of amazing objects, locations, and creatures than inhabit our universe.
We’re almost there! As a humble startup, we are seeking funding through the generous donations of enthusiasts and professionals alike (http://www.gofundme.com/aegpb8). Help us start realizing the future, today!
