MAKATI, Philippines -- Open Access BPO lives up to its vision of promoting volunteerism and a healthy lifestyle among its workforce by holding its fourth annual blood donation drive in the company’s Philippine office yesterday, March 04, 2015.
"The goal of this event, and all events like it, is to allow the employees to be able to give to a good cause that will benefit a greater community," Open Access BPO’s marketing director Matthew Narciso said when asked about the objective behind the activity.
Partnering with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Associated Medical Services (AMS), the business process outsourcing company contributed 8,100 milliliters of blood to PRC's blood bank.
The event was administered by PRC doctors and nurses, while AMS representatives simultaneously offered free blood typing and blood sugar testing services.
The blood-letting activity was declared a success, based on the volume of blood collected and the number of donors who participated this year. The past three events witnessed a similar level of support from Open Access' Philippine leg, particularly in 2013 where PRC was able to extract 10,000 milliliters from volunteers.
Participants underwent the usual preparation and screening prior to the actual blood-drawing process.
PRC nurse Giana Gonzales commented on the good number that the outsourcing firm was able to produce, considering that the blood drive only ran for six hours.
The yearly blood donation activity is one of the causes that Open Access BPO supports to encourage community involvement in the workplace. Aside from offering health and fitness incentives to the workers, the firm also holds occasional outreach and volunteer programs for non-government organizations.
"We like it when our employees have the opportunity to help others and in turn, benefit from being part of a noble cause," Narciso remarked.
