Nationwide, - Armando Villa, 19, died in 2014 after passing out barefoot with no water in the Angeles National Forest during a fraternity hazing rite at CSUN. For Armando and other stories similar to his, The Burning Sands 5k Runs have established four academic scholarship funds in their honor. In upcoming months The Burning Sands will be announcing the names of the three other students whom the scholarships are created in memory of. With the support of many celebrities, including confirmed actor and producer Derek Luke (Empire, Captain America, Notorious) and more to be announced, The Burning Sands will be one of the biggest events and movements happening this year.

Making history, The Burning Sands, is the first nationwide event of its kind striving to bring the increasingly dangerous unsupported tradition of hazing into the public eye and giving a voice of millions to those whom have lost their lives. More than half of the estimated 21 million college students involved in clubs, teams, and organizations experience hazing and of those, 95% are not likely to report hazing to campus officials. The Burning Sands 5k Anti-Hazing Runs will be taking place in four locations on the same day in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Miami. UCLA has been confirmed as the LA location.
