PickleballNut.com aims to be almost as fun as the game

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Pickleball is the world’s fastest growing sport. PickleballNut.com is about helping pickleball nuts (about 93 percent of players according to research) Share the love with non-players to help fuel the sport’s astounding growth.

What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines the size of a badminton court with nets and rules kinda like tennis, an oversized Ping-Pong paddle and a whiffle-like ball. It has nothing to do with a pickle (more on that later) and everything to do with exercise, competition, socializing and fun.

Growth
The fun and growth of the sport has been the subject of recent coverage on NBC Nightly News, Athletic Business, CNN, The New York Times and countless local newspapers and magazines.

The USA Pickleball Association estimates there are perhaps 200,000 players in the US alone and that does not include all the school and college programs. National organizations exist in a half dozen countries. One spot in Florida has 140 courts. New courts are being added in the US at the rate of about one every other day and as of July 2014 totaled almost 8,100.

History
The “official” story is that the game was invented one summer afternoon by former Washington State representative Joel Pritchard and friends. Looking for something to do, they fashioned some paddles out of plywood, set up badminton net and recruited a stray Whiffle ball. The resulting melee caught on and the rest is history. The “Pickle” part of it supposedly comes from the Pritchard’s dog named “Pickles”. However, equal time probably can be given to the theory that Pritchard and his pals were rather “pickled” at the time. There’s also the possibility that the name derived from the pickle boat (the last fishing boat in) or the pickle crew (a collection of talent).

The site
It’s chock full of fun. It’s the color of pickleballs. The logo, a cartoony rendition of a pickleball and a standard metal hardware nut will not mean a thing to non-players. But that’s just fine with the founders. The idea is it that when it’s displayed on a shirt or hat or whatever, it will prompt a little curiosity, and perhaps gives the wearer a chance to evangelize about the sport they love.

Almost everything is written with a smile on its face.
