Christmas Special Keeps Shoppers Coming In Through The Holiday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- As frazzled customers hurry through the last few days of Christmas shopping and merchants try to end 2014 on a high note financially, a last minute Christmas special is keeping many customers in the stores, which is a healthy change from previous years. With concerns over weather delays affecting deliveries, people are returning to brick and mortar stores to make sure they can get all of their gifts in time to be wrapped under the tree.

“Last year’s winter is still on a lot of people’s mind,” said Abagail Jensen, one of the diamond experts at Luisa Graff Jewelers. “Even though almost all the major online retailers offer guaranteed delivery before Christmas, too many people were burned last year when the snow and cold forced cancellations. Some of our customers have told us stories about not getting the deliveries last year until after the first of the year, even after they paid exorbitantly for express shipping for Christmas.”

Many people believe that if they buy their solitaire engagement rings online, they will be able to find them at a substantial savings; a savings that they think will more than make up for the shipping fees. It is because of that belief that many jewelry stores across the nation offer a Christmas special each year. That additional shipping charge, especially for something as valuable as diamond jewelry, can end up being a substantial portion of the purchase price. That charge is just one of the many reasons customers are returning to regular stores. In a recent nationwide survey carried out during the holiday period, the number one reason people gave was the appreciation of face-to-face customer service and attention. This response was especially high when asked of customers who were shopping for engagement rings and other Christmas jewelry.

“So much of everything else is automated in our day-to-day life,” Jensen went on to say, “that people miss having that human connection. They feel it is especially important when they are buying something that has an emotional component to it. This isn’t just another television or video game. These are engagement rings we’re talking about. It’s a process they want to share.”
