KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- With 20 Designer Outlets near key tourist destinations across eight European countries, McArthurGlen is looking towards Southeast Asia as an increasingly important region as a source of tax-free sales to shopping tourists.
Pacific World Travel will cover Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia; markets with a total population of over 285 million. The company joins McArthurGlen’s global tourism network, which also includes representative offices in China, South Korea, Russia and Brazil, who all report into McArthurGlen’s tourism team at the company’s London Head Office.
Appointed in September 2014, Pacific World Travel, as McArthurGlen’s new Southeast Asian representative office, will carry out marketing, advertising, and media relations activities. This will be to communicate primarily with the travel trade industry, forming partnerships with tourism boards, media and airline partners, as well as communicating directly with the consumer, to ensure that a shopping trip to a McArthurGlen centre is on travellers’ itinerary before they leave home.
McArthurGlen Designer Outlets offer the most-sought after luxury and premium fashion brands with year-round savings of 30-70% in a vibrant, high-quality shopping environment, with a full calendar of events and activities. With nearly 3,000 stores, the Group offers more designer outlet shopping than any other operator in Europe.
According to Cherry Lee, Executive Director of Pacific World Travel, “We are excited to work on the McArthurGlen account, increasing the Group’s brand awareness within Southeast Asia and building on their already well-established reputation as the leader of designer outlet retailing in Europe.”
Anthony Rippingale, McArthurGlen’s Head of Tourism, says: “We are delighted to appoint Pacific World Travel to represent us in Southeast Asia. This is a region which we see as offering tremendous potential; people from here love to travel to Europe, they love fashion and they love to have an authentic European shopping experience.”
In 2015, McArthurGlen will open its first centre outside Europe, in Vancouver, Canada. Also in the pipeline are new centres in Provence, which will be the first designer outlet in the South of France, followed by two in Istanbul, Turkey, and designer outlets in Ghent (between the Belgian cities of Bruges and Brussels) and in Remscheid (between Cologne and Dusseldorf).
For 2014, tax-free sales at McArthurGlen’s centres are heading for another record-breaking year, after having doubled over the last two years (2012-2013).
