Ways To Cut Down On Wedding Costs

Planning a wedding is anything but cheap, especially if you have set things in mind that you must have to make your big day special. Blame it on fairytales or on Pinterest and how brides see glamorous wedding ideas and automatically want to incorporate them into their own wedding, thus further increasing the costs. The cost of a wedding can even be more than a house payment, which is why many couples that don’t want to put themselves in debt before they even say “I Do” look for any way to save a dollar. Here are some cost-cutting things couples can do to keep their wedding affordable yet still wonderful!

1. Have Your Wedding On An Off Day

Saturdays are known for being the day that everybody gets married. And it makes sense. It’s the first day of the weekend and you have Sunday to recuperate. BUT, it’s also more expensive than if you would have your wedding on a Friday or Sunday. These two off days are actually becoming quite popular among couples not only because it’s cheaper, but because it’s unique. Also, prices for venues and wedding venues are a lot lower during off months, which start in December through March. The only bad thing is that the weather isn’t always as great.

2. Stick With Flowers That Are In Season

Flowers are one of the big ticket items for a wedding since you’ll need some for the centerpieces, the bouquets, at the church, at the venue, etc. And it’s easy to fall in love with elaborate pieces that require out-of-season flowers. But if you stick with flowers that are in season, your costs will come down. And also keep in mind that certain seasonal flowers are cheaper than others, so choose options that work with your budge. Roses are actually fairly cheap all year round!

3. Opt For A Buffet

Having a formal, sit-down service for diner can add up, especially if you have a huge guest list. A buffet-style dinner can cut costs anywhere form 20%-30% and it gets your guests up and socializing when they get their food.

4. Choose A Smaller Photo Package

Even though you really want to buy the biggest photography package your photographer offers, fight your urge and go with a smaller photo package up front, with the potential to upgrade later. This way you can put aside some wedding money that you get as gifts for more photos later.

5. Unique Wedding Invites

Invites can get very expensive and since everybody has a computer, smartphone, tablet and an email, why not send out animated invites? And really, people just throw them away anyways. Digitalizing your wedding invitation can save you about $443 since companies like CoolForWedding.com does digital invites for about $20! They go out faster and get a much better response from guests since you don’t have to wait for days on end for them to respond via snail mail.
