OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Renaissance International School will hold Middle School info nights on Thursday, October 30 from 7p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The middle school program gives students expertise in twenty-first century skills while they gain knowledge in core academics including mathematics, (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry); language immersion (English, French, Spanish); sciences (including visits to museums and universities, meeting experts in the field, and doing research); geography (understanding of geography includes current events, world history, literature, science, art and music); history (the program goes beyond a series of dates to a focus on places and events. Students might learn about a particular historical figure and may "become" that person in a dramatic presentation); and research (students learn key concepts that help them to explore and connect with concepts and take responsibility for their own learning).
Attendees at the middle school info sessions will learn more about the program and meet faculty and staff. They will learn about the unique middle school education designed around students' needs and curiosity, encouraging them to find their own place in the community and to learn skills that will aid them to thrive now and throughout adulthood.
Students who attend The Renaissance International School are from Oakland, Berkeley, San Leandro, Alameda, and other San Francisco East Bay cities.
Graduates of The Renaissance International School attend top San Francisco Bay Area public and private schools including Head Royce, The College Preparatory School, Bishop O'Dowd, Bentley School, Lick-Wilmerding, and Oakland Tech.
