ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Elizabeth Resident Oscar Ocasio Wins First Place in Toastmasters Area 63 Humorous Speech Contest
His speech entitled “Joe Jockey and I: 50 degrees of Separation” earns Oscar Ocasio, Director of Process Improvement for the Elizabeth Public School System, first place in the Toastmasters Area 63 Humorous Speech Contest.
Oscar Ocasio of Elizabeth, New Jersey, has taken first place in the Area 63 Humorous Speech Contest held Monday, September 22 at Clark Public Library, Clark, NJ. He will go on to compete at the Division F Contest, on Saturday, October 25, at the same location.
Oscar Ocasio, Director of Process Improvement for the Elizabeth Public School System, has been a member of Toastmasters International since January 1, 2011. Oscar’s speech, “JoeJockey and I: 50 degrees of Separation”, focused on his experience as a political candidate on the campaign trail.
“Although winning the Area 63 competition was gratifying,” said Ocasio, “the biggest reward comes from knowing how much more my public speaking skills have improved through the time I have invested in Toastmasters and from what I have learned from other speakers.”
A long-time resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Mr. Ocasio’s participation in politics stems from his core belief that change comes only through involvement.

Oscar Ocasio, CC, CL, has been a member of Toastmasters International since, January 1, 2011, and is a member of two Clubs, Speakability Toastmasters and Toastmasters of Westfield. Having achieved his Competent Communicator and Competent Leader Awards, within the Toastmasters organization Oscar Ocasio intends to continue achieving additional awards.
