John Cisar Enters Chittenden County Vermont Senate Race, Seeks to Shake Up Establishment

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. -- John Cisar of Essex, Vermont, officially announces his candidacy for Chittenden County State Senate. Cisar will be appearing on the November 4th general election ballot and asks for your support to help make Vermont a more affordable place to live. “I’m a crossover candidate,” says Cisar, “I’m socially progressive and fiscally conservative. I represent the best aspects found within the Democratic and Republican parties.”

Vermont’s forecast for higher taxes and increased government spending, against a backdrop of declining youth population, stagnant wages, and a weak business climate, prompted Cisar to enter the race. “According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 9 of 10 fastest growing job categories in Vermont are low-skilled job categories that do not require a college degree. Meanwhile, the trend across our country shows strong demand for professionals with marketable jobs skills in business, math and science,” says Cisar. “Furthermore, young adult Vermonters are not finding the conditions they need to live here. Vermont has some of the highest taxes, yet we can barely maintain basic highway infrastructure. These are symptoms of poor policies, so we need fresh thinking. The establishment has had time to correct policy, but chose not to because they believe themselves safely entrenched behind special interest money that insulates them from reality.”

When asked about making spending cuts to welfare programs, Cisar said that doing so would be “irresponsible,” explaining that cuts ought to be conditioned on a reduction in need. “Lawmakers must not cut essential services to those in need without first enacting good policies to provide for the general upward mobility all Vermonters deserve. Capable Vermonters who have fallen onto hard times ought to be able to find their way out of the social safety net in a healthy economy.”

The mismanaged roll-out of Vermont Health Connect and a climate of secrecy surrounding Single Payer healthcare also concern Cisar.
