VLADIVOSTOK, Russian Federation -- Ambassador of Republic of Singapore in the Russian Federation Lim Kheng Hua and heads of numerous major production, trade and investment corporations of the Asian country arrived with him to the FEFU campus on Russky island.
Lee Yi Shyan informed that he was visiting Vladivostok for the first time and was very pleased to have an opportunity to get to know the potential of Primorsky Krai and to discuss the opportunities to accomplish joint projects with Russian partners. As it was announced earlier, Singapore’s interest to the region is not limited with business alone. Cooperation in the educational and research field is of equal interest, all the more so the arrangements with the Far-Eastern Federal University in this respect had been reached earlier.
Rector of Far-Eastern Federal University Sergey Ivanets reminded on the memorandum of agreement with the National University of Singapore signed in 2013 in which both universities confirmed their interest in performing joint research, exchange with research, academic and technical information, and commercialization of the technologies developed. FEFU also has partner relationships with Singapore Management University.
In Sergey Ivanets’ opinion, the parties have laid the foundation for closer cooperation in specific fields. The FEFU rector mentioned some of such innovation fields for cooperation which could be of mutual interest. Primarily, this is medical supplies manufacturing from marine bioresources. In this field, FEFU can be represented by the Medical Center and the School of Biomedicine. Besides, the Federal University considers cooperation in the following fields as challenging: ecological monitoring, composite materials manufacturing, and submersible robots. One more field could be creation of an electronic trading site on Russky island oriented at enterprises of Republic of Singapore.
Lee Yi Shyan showed his interest in the suggestions mentioned and his readiness to discuss them in more details. It should be emphasized that the main site for bilateral cooperation development is the High-Level Russia-Singapore Intergovernmental Commission whose co-chair is the first vice prime minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov. The next Commission’s session is planned to be held in September in Singapore.
