PASADENA, Calif. -- For the second time this week Actor Said (pronounced sah-EED) Faraj has been nominated for an award at the upcoming Action On Film (AOF) International Film Festival, the most recent for the WAB (Without a Box) Best Performance in an Acting Role Male or Female Award for his performance in the film Sharia. Initially, Said was nominated for his role in The Algerian, which pitted him against his co-star Harry Lennix, also nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Award.
The Algerian follows Ali (Ben Youcef) from Algeria to the United States as he attempts to assimilate into American culture. It is revealed that Ali is part of a terroristic plot against the United States. Said Faraj portrays ‘Father’ in the film. The Algerian will screen on Aug. 23rd at 6pm. In Sharia, Faraj portrays Soriane Benabas, a man in love with Heather Keenan (portrayed by Lauren Byrnes). Their relationship is met with adversity as they struggle with differences of faith, culture, and unwanted advice from family members. Sharia will screen on Aug. 25th at 9pm.
Additionally, a third film starring Faraj, the crime drama Plotted Plants, is also nominated for Best Short. It tells the story of a local drug smuggler who helps a funeral home director get rid of the drugs which happened to land in his possession. It will screen on Aug. 26th at 6pm.
All films will screen at the Krikorian Premier Theatres located at 410 S. Myrtle Ave. Monrovia, CA 91016.
