2014 Women In Film and Television International Summit

Women In Film and Media Pittsburgh (http://www.wifmpit.org/) is hosting an international summit at the Westin Hotel & Convention Center (Pittsburgh), which draws women from the 40 Women In Film chapters located throughout the world to discuss filmmaking issues and attend panel discussions and screenings.

The summit will cover 3 Days, May 16-18, with 30 Panel Discussions, 40 speakers, 2 screenings and the Opal Awards and is open to anyone who is interested in the film and television industry – including men. Information available at WIFTISummit.org

Faith Dickinson, President and Founder of Women In Film and Media Pittsburgh and WIFTI Board member said, “This is a huge thrill for our chapter to be the host of this summit and show the world what Pittsburgh is capable of in the film industry.”

Catherine Hardwicke Director of Twilight and Thirteen will speak on the Women In The Director’s Chair panel discussion with local film director Melissa Martin and producer Paula Gregg.

Panelists include Kim Moses, producer of the Ghost Whisperer and the new CBS series Reckless; CNN News Correspondent Martin Savidge,; Rosemary Tarquinio, Vice President of Current Programming for CBS will discuss shows she has developed including NCIS, The Good Wife, 2 Broke Girls and The Mentalist; Loren Smith from King of the Hill and Madagascar 3, Russ Streiner, Night of the Living Dead

The Saturday evening Opal Awards will honor Deb Acklin CEO of WQED, Dawn Keezer from the Pittsburgh Film Office, Eleanor Schano with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Catherine Hardwicke with a Women In Film and Television International Woman of Impact Award.

On Sunday, May 18th Pittsburgh local news anchors and reporters will hold a session that will address the role of women in the news. Scheduled as of this date – Elanor Schano, Sally Wiggin, Susan Koeppen, Bufta Yiman and Sheila Hyland.

The summit draws together film, television and new media talent from around the world to network and experience the talent and expertise that thrives in the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania film market.

The Summit is open to the public, men, women and young adults.

Friday morning Plenary breakfast will begin at 8:30 with Allegheny County Chief Executive Richard Fitzgerald, Mayor Bill Peduto, , poet Vanessa German and Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner introducing Ghost Whisperer and Reckless Executive Producer Kim Moses.

Friday screening of Gideon’s Army – public welcome to attend as a separate event. $10.00 at the door.
