H.H. Sakya Trizin will give public teachings in the Santa Fe Convention Center at 201 W Marcy Street in Santa Fe on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014. His morning talk “Buddha Dharma in Daily Life: Finding Joy through Skillful Living” begins at 9:30 am. In the afternoon, He will confer the blessing of “The Three Bodhisattvas” at 2 pm. There will be a Grand Appreciation Dinner at 7 pm. One need not be a Buddhist, people of all ages and denominations are welcome.
“The Three Bodhisattvas” represent the awakened energetic principles of Wisdom, Compassion and Power in our daily lives. A bodhisattva refers to one who makes a commitment to help all sentient beings become free from suffering. Just as H.H. the Dalai Lama is regarded by the Tibetan people as an emanation of Great Compassion, H.H. Sakya Trizin is regarded as an emanation of Transcendent Wisdom.
Wisdom and compassion, coupled together with the power of goodness, can effect real change to benefit others. H.H. Sakya Trizin has reflected that “Everything we have today and everything we do has a cause in the past. In fact it is said that if you want to know what you did in the past, you should look to your present situation...this is the result of past actions, as the future, whether happy or otherwise depends on what you do today. Everything you do today will produce a result in the future.”
World-renowned for the brilliance and clarity of His teachings, and fluent, precise command of English, he was born in 1945 in Tibet. He is an inspirational leader and the 41st Head of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism. The Sakya Lineage is one of the four principal schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The name Sakya (Tibetan, "pale earth") came from the unique, grey landscape of southern Tibet where Sakya Monastery was built there in 1073. It remained the Seat for the Sakya Order until the 1959 invasion of Tibet, when H.H. Sakya Trizin escaped with to India. He and his family have now lived in Dehra Dun for more than five decades, working tirelessly for peace, and keeping the Tibetan tradition alive. Many requests were put forth for Him to teach in the larger cities in the USA, yet He chose Santa Fe as one of the few stops in the North American tour (along with New York, Minneapolis and Seattle). His visit is hosted by Tsechen Namdrol Ling, the new Sakya Center for Buddhist Studies in Santa Fe; is co-sponsored by The Vikramasila Foundation; with special thanks to the Tibetan Association of Santa Fe for generous assistance.
