SOUTHSIDE, Hong Kong -- Joining RHKYC will be crews from Lantau Boat Club, Lion Rock Rowing Club, the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Sea School and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
The event, now in its second year, consists of exciting open water racing for men, women and juniors in one, two and four-man boats and is raced over both a short and long course from Repulse bay to Round Island and into Deep Water Bay.
Hong Kong has the perfect geography for coastal rowing and competitors can expect stunning views of the south coast and Lamma Island as they take on the challenging conditions. The crews will need to navigate the best route around the long course, while managing to avoid other crews racing towards the same turning points.
Now recognised by the International Rowing Federation, coastal rowing is a fast-growing sport that takes the best traditional rowing types seen in many countries and provides a standardised racing format. World Championship events have now been run for the past five years and each year the participation grows.
Racing will take place on Sunday between 0900hrs and 1600hrs followed by a prizegiving on the Lawn at RHKYC’s Deep Water Bay clubhouse.
The Hong Kong Coastal Rowing Championships are organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on behalf of the Hong Kong China Rowing Association.
