CENTRAL DISTRICT, Hong Kong -- Zhuhai International Circuit, Zhuhai China –
With just four weeks remaining until the start of the 2014 Asia Formula Renault championship at Zhuhai International Circuit on March 22, excitement is rapidly building for the season.
PS Racing team has just signed four full season drivers for 2014, in what promises to be a thrilling championship that will include triple-header events at the world-famous Shanghai and Sepang International F1 Circuits.
PSR’s multi-national line-up will include French drivers Sebastien Mailleux and Guillaume Cunnington, German driver Markus Engel, and Chinese national Neric Wei.
Wei will be joining his second season of AFR after finishing 5th in the Asian Class in 2013, and after making steady progress last season he will be putting his main effort this year to AFR with a cutback on GT racing. For Mailleux, Cunnington and Engel it will be their first season competing in Asia Formula Renault
Mailleux said that after training in Zhuhai, he feels the next step for him is to move forward and improve his ‘beginner’ racing skills – the best and fastest way to move forward being to compete with other drivers. Sebastien is looking forward to doing his first-ever race start, and ‘racing on proper F1 circuits in Sepang and Shanghai’.
Cunnington got his first taste of Asia Formula Renault last December in the 2013 series’ final rounds, 9&10, in Zhuhai, where he finished 2nd&3rd in the Masters Class. However, 2014 will be his first full season and first visit to tracks beyond Zhuhai. In 2014 his plan is to learn as much as possible about car setup, the challenge of different tracks, and take to the podium once again.
Engel raced Scirocco R Cup China last year and credited his strong improvement over the season, his first ever in racing, to training in the Formula Renault 2.0 car. Engel said especially in terms of braking technique, the challenge of piloting the advanced Formula Renault 2.0 car made racing the 270hp Scirocco R Cup much easier than it ever had been before. He’s looking forward with enthusiasm to his first season in formula car competition, and like Sebastien and Guillaume, Markus is especially excited about racing at the Sepang and Shanghai F1 Circuits.
The season’s opening weekend will be March 22nd at the Pan Delta Race Festival at Zhuhai International Circuit. With live television coverage and an average weekend attendance of over 20,000 fans, the Pan Delta circus is one of the largest race events in Asia. Follow the excitement on http://www.psracing.com.
