Ahmedabad: Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, Minister for Education, Law & Justice, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Government of Gujarat launched MOOCS Learning Hub (MLH) at Gujarat Education Summit 2014 being held in Rai University, Ahmedabad. Shri Chudasma said, “MOOCS Learning Hubs will help bridge the gap between our youth and their aspirations, between their talents and their fulfilled expressions, and close the gap that divides India from her greater destiny.” It is to be noted that MLH is a small smart mini-colleges. More MOOCS Learning Hub Centers are to be set up in various parts of the country to deliver world-class open online MOOCs courses, most of them free, to the youth, majority of whom are still not empowered through access to higher education. The MOOCS Learning Hub will be equipped with Wi-Fi, computer work stations, printers, scanners, video-conference, video lectures, library lounge-café spaces, with a tutor and mentor for helping out the self-learners. The youth can come into any of these centers that will be located in a wide set of locations across the country to facilitate access, and enroll for various online learning options.
MOOCS Learning Hubs can be also be set up in the existing infrastructure of universities, government offices, and other institutional spaces. They can be used not just by students aspiring for higher education but also by working professionals aspiring for lifelong and continuous learning opportunities. Sections of society like bureaucrats, police personnel, army jawans, and also housewives can also enroll in certificate programs for self- development, like in IT, languages, self-awareness, apps development etc, offered by MOOCs and Universities.
Some noted personalities including Shri A.M. Tiwari, Principal Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Gujarat; Dr. Jayanti S. Ravi, Commissioner – Primary Education & State Project Director – MDM & Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of Gujarat; Dr. Mukul I Shah, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat University; Dr. A. Sankara Reddy, Provost, Rai University; Dr. Vinay Rai, Chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council on HRD, Education & Employment; and Dr. Harbeen Arora, Chairperson, Rai University were are also present at the launch event. Shri Chudasma also released the book, “MOOVE WITH MOOCS,” at the Gujarat Education Summit 2014.
