Since Facebook's 10th Anniversary the "Look Back" movies have been gaining more and more trending momentum; whether it be the positive momentum in which people are happy with their videos or the negative that people just don't have enough content for Facebook to make them a full video.
Either way, the scum of the internet has figured out how to capitalize off of other people disappointment...and then add some more disappointment on top. Hackers have been advertising things such as, "Get your look back video here" which happen to just be a giant scam.
Our friends at http://www.lookbacks.com have shown us examples of what these hackers are doing and they are less than pleased citing that it's making their company look horrible.
"People come to Facebook to socialize with friends, not to get viruses. It's really unfortunate because the people that are clicking on these things aren't familiar with what a 'Look Back' video is and these hackers are just playing off of the inexperience of others. It just sucks." said Nathan Goodwin, Founder of www.LookBacks.com .
Nathan tells us he has had dozens messaging his Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/LookBacks) trying to figure out what is happening.
"What it does first is ask permission to access your Facebook profile and this includes your friend list, what you like, what you've posted and even giving the app permission to post on your behalf. Most people just click (okay) and don't even think anything of it. These apps can sit dormant for months before someone decides to activate them. When they're activated...your Facebook will be sending out spam to your friends and then taking over their Facebook's" said Goodwin.
When asked how to better protect against these threats he laughed and stated that, "Facebook is allowing these renegades to roam free.".
If after you go to a "look back link" and asks to "Install" anything for the look back, then it's most definitely a malicious link. If you have a question about a Look Back link, don't click - just copy the link and send it in a message to www.Facebook.com/LookBacks so other users can be warned.
