The desire to strive for better career advancement drove Azliyana Ghazali, 33, to make the pursuit of higher education her goal and mission.
Azliyana, a Business Development Executive in Highway Concessionaire Company, enrolled with Wawasan Open University (WOU) to pursue her Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Construction Management (BTCM), a field related to her profession.
“BTCM is a platform for me to improve my professional skills. It is a ticket for my career development. Working in the area of Business Development, definitely I need more knowledge in the right field to boost my skills and experience,” she said.
Azliyana holds a Diploma in Computer Science and she believes that the WOU degree is an added value to enhance her job competency for her personal enrichment and professional advancement.
WOU’s Open Distance Learning (ODL) model provides learners unparalleled flexibility and places exceptional learning resources at their fingertips. The online programmes allow learners to study wherever and whenever they want.
“The study method and time that I need to spend for attending classes or tutorials did not distract my working time. Moreover, the Regional Centre is nearby to my house,” said Azliyana who enrolled through Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre.
“ODL taught me a lot about time management. Career and study works well concurrently,” she continued.
Exclusively dedicated to working professionals, WOU offers more than ten Bachelor’s degree programmes under the School of Science and Technology. The areas of specialisation include multimedia design, computing and intelligent system, software engineering, computer systems and networks, information systems, information and communication technology, and construction management.
WOU is extending higher learning opportunities to school leavers and diploma holders with the offering of On Campus Learning (OCL) full-time studies. The University under the School of Business and Administration is offering Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting and Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management.
Gobeeshankar Krishnan, 22, introduced by his best friend to take-up Accounting at WOU. “I chose WOU mainly because of the course fees, environment and facilities, and the University’s good reputation,” he said.
“Ever since primary school, I’ve loved mathematics, especially calculus! I definitely prefer numbers more than words. My ambition is to become a successful accountant in the corporate sector. Study at WOU gives me a comfortable feeling, like being at home. The people here are friendly,” he added.
