After weeks of tests and antiobiotics failing to stop her dog, Katie, from peeing blood, Sarka-Jonae's vet, Dr. Pearson, arranged for an ultrasound. Soon after, Sarka-Jonae learned that her best friend, a fluffy American Eskimo dog, had a tumor in her bladder and possibly her liver. Three thousand dollars later, a tumor was found and removed from Katie's arenal glands, not her liver, and a second tumor was partially taken from her bladder. It turned out to be malignant.
Katie is now on daily chemotherapy medication and needs close monitoring. She'll require regular blood draws to check that the chemo isn't damaging her kidneys and periodic ultrasounds to monitor the tumor in her bladder. In an effort to pay off her vet bills and provide for Katie's care, the author is offering autographed copies of her #3 humorous fiction bestseller, Between Boyfriends, for only $25 (list price $17.95, plus tax and shipping). She'll write a personal message and send the book anywhere in the continental United States.

Katie is a purebred minature American Eskimo that Sarka-Jonae adopted from a rescue group in LA. She was told that Katie's original owner died and it was only through the intervention of the group that Katie was spared euthanization. Sarka-Jonae adopted her and brought her home to San Diego. Since adopting Katie, two of Sarka's cats were killed by dogs she was going to adopt after being told that the dogs were cat friendly. Last year, her mare, Pearl, was euthanized after the horse was no longer able to get up due to severe arthritis and old age. Sarka is doing everything she can to keep her canine best friend alive.
