This camara is everything that I want. Takes great pictures and is not heavy and very easy to use! I was able to get the first steps of my son with the multiple and motion shot settings! I can't say much more about this unit than has already been said. It is a beginner's dream. I have learned so much by having this camera that would have been such a struggle with any other camera as a newbie. I have already taken some fantastic photos, and videos are not bad as well. I think that when I am ready to move up to the next level this camera body will remain in my bag. I really love this unit, and I continue to grow with it everyday.

I bought this for a backup body for my Nikon D7000. The D7000 only has 16MP and the D3200 has 24MP, but the D7000 has many more features than the D3200. I don't use my D7000 for movies, but thought I'd give it a go on the 3200. The videos were surprisingly good and I was pleased with them even though I had no idea what I was doing. Just read what to do in the user's manual and went for it. Nikon makes excellent cameras and I would recommend this for someone who wants to get expand their photography beyond point and shoot, but not break the bank doing it..

I own a Nikon F2 Photomic, made in 1971. Forty years ago, this was Nikon's top-of-the-line camera.

Between my F2 and this D3200, I have a variety of much-lesser film and digital cameras.

I've long wished there was a digital back available for my F2, to convert it into a DSLR. The advantages of digital photography over stone-aged film photography are tremendous, but nothing else that I had before the D3200 could take pictures nearly as good as what I could get with my F2.

This D3200 takes great pictures, easily in the same league as my old F2.

This is actually Nikon's current bottom-of-the-line (they prefer the term “entry-level”) DSLR, though quite a stock still seems to be out there, being sold in stores, of the now-obsolete predecessor to this camera, the D3100. The experience of using it sure doesn't feel like what you expect of bottom-of-the-line. It certainly does not feel like a step down in any way from my F2.

This camera seems to do an amazing job of striking a balance between the needs of the rankest novice, and those of the most experienced, discerning professional or skilled amateur. It has fully-automated modes that implement an amazing degree of intelligence in determining the nature of the scene before it, and picking the optimal settings to photograph that scene,and it has fully-manual modes that allow the photographer to exercise complete control over every parameter.

Although the manual claims that non-AI lenses (any F-mount lenses made before 1977) cannot be used with this camera, I have found that all of my old non-AI lenses that I have for my F2 work just fine on this camera, albeit with some obvious and expected limitations. http://webblackfridaysale2013.us/nikon-d3200/
