ANTRIM, U.K. -- Texthelp Ltd today announced that its cloud-based speech and reading support solution for online content, BrowseAloud, is available through the Cloudstore as a result of the latest iteration of the UK government’s procurement framework, G-Cloud 4.
BrowseAloud is innovative reading support software that removes the barriers faced by more than 20% of the population when interacting online via Smartphones, Tablets, PCs and Macs. This includes those people with literacy difficulties, dyslexia, mild visual impairments and those who speak English as a second language.
The G-Cloud framework is an iterative programme for all government departments to consider public cloud first in any IT procurement decisions. It allows the public sector to take advantage of new technologies in order to deliver faster business benefits and reduce cost. It also enables government and public sector organisations to procure in a way that encourages a dynamic and responsive supplier marketplace and supports emerging suppliers.
Achieving G-Cloud 4 status identifies BrowseAloud as a secure, reliable and trusted accessibility solution provider under the Software as a Service (SaaS) category to Central Government and Government Agencies.
Remarking on the achievement, David Robinson, BrowseAloud General Manager said, “We are delighted to be one of the first Assistive Technology companies in Northern Ireland to be part of the G-Cloud. This framework is revolutionising the way that Government operates, allowing SME’s to become directly involved in the procurement process, creating opportunities and stimulating competition, innovation and growth. G-Cloud will help to deliver time and cost savings to Government and IT systems fit for the 21st Century”
BrowseAloud works by reading web pages aloud in a natural-sounding voice and highlights each word as it is spoken. This audio-visual reinforcement has been proven to increase comprehension and understanding. Key reading support features include: text-to-speech, text magnification, MP3 maker, screen masking/tinting and personalised settings. In addition, BrowseAloud reads all accessible website content, including PDF documents, secure web pages and online forms.
