American Film Market Webseries, FREELANCERS, Finds Kickstarter Success with RogueFlix

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- RogueFlix, the young-male driven Silicon Beach online network changed the game last year at the American Film Market when it acquired the webseries, FREELANCERS, which went on to find success on Kickstarter after debuting on RogueFlix.com.

“Recognizing the changing trends in media consumption particularly among Millennials, RogueFlix decided to buck the trend and actively seek serialized content at last year’s American Film Market with a slant towards webseries,” stated Bryan Duran, co-founder of RogueFlix. “What we found was astonishing when sales agents would pull out separate binders highlighting web only shows that they were offering to us. Despite the traditional independent film fare at the American Film Market, the smart sales agents had their eyes set to do digital distribution deals with the right companies like RogueFlix.”

“It is no surprise to us that the first webseries RogueFlix acquired would go on to exceed its funding requirements on Kickstarter by over 100% to produce new shows,” stated Larry Rodriguez, co-founder of RogueFlix. “Based on preliminary footage of the medieval series, storytelling and directing abilities of Ignatius Fischer, and promotional materials, we knew we had something very special with FREELANCERS. Although the Kickstarter campaign was not just about funding, it was also a primary way to get fan buy-in of the series and what better way to vote than by opening up your wallet on Kickstarter.”

“Sites like Youtube are all things to all people and great content gets quickly lost among the funny cat videos, baby videos, and low budget webcam shows,” stated Ignatius Fischer, writer and director of FREELANCERS. “ROGUEFLIX focuses on premium content created for their action oriented fans and FREELANCERS has all of the targeted demographic elements such as special effects, magic, costumes, sword fights, and epic battles wrapped into a medieval storyline. I posted RogueFlix links of the shows on Kickstarter and on my social media and we quickly raised additional funds to create more episodes.”

In addition to serialized television shows and webseries, RogueFlix is also looking for independent feature films for VOD distribution in the US at the 2013 American Film Market for its platform which targets young males between the ages of 14 to 34.
