Digital and archived collages by Teresa Paiva to be shown at Buy Art Fair, Manchester 2013
Orso Major is delighted to announce that Teresa Paiva will be joining the online gallery and presenting her powerful collages at Buy Art Fair this September.
Teresa Paiva is a diverse and exciting artist, born in Porto, Portugal, who works in a variety of media, including collage, photography and video. Paiva has exhibited all over the world, including London, Tokyo, Athens, New York and Amsterdam.
Orso Major will be showcasing works from two of Paiva’s series: “Chronicles of Decontextualised Violence” and “Depleted”. In “Chronicles…” images of violence and trauma become digital collages, altering the viewers interpretation of the setting. Here Paiva uses horizontal stripes of red, green and blue to replace the bodies in the images giving anonymity to the figures: highlighting the death and suffering but at the same time decontextualising the violence.
Works from “Depleted” also use this horizontal striping this time with tape, but here Paiva is using archived images placed on found wallpaper to create stark and poignant collages.
In 2013 Paiva has had a solo show in Amsterdam as well as collective shows in the UK, Portugal and Colombia. At such an exciting time for this talented new artist, Orso Major is delighted to be showcasing her work at Buy Art Fair in Manchester from 26-29 September. Paiva’s works can also be found at the online gallery www.orsomajor.com.
