Joyce Hawkins, CAP-OM, of Saint Peters, Mo., was recently honored for her fundraising efforts on behalf of educational scholarships for administrative professionals and housing for their retired colleagues in need. Hawkins raised $2,000 during the Amazing Walk, a unique fundraising campaign for The Foundation of the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Hawkins was a top fundraiser among the 369 individuals who participated in the Amazing Walk from across North America. More than $48,000 was collected from more than 900 individual donations all together. The Amazing Walk was a virtual race that started April 1 and ended June 30, 2013. Every dollar raised equaled one “mile” along a course following old Route 66 from Missouri – home of IAAP’s headquarters - to the association’s annual EFAM conference July 27-31 in Anaheim, Calif. Hawkins’ efforts on behalf of The Foundation of IAAP meant she was the second to “finish” the virtual race by raising at least $1,800 before all but one other participant. She and the other top three participants were then honored for their efforts during a ceremony Wednesday night, July 31, at the Anaheim Marriott. The Foundation of IAAP is an independent 501(c)3 charitable organization based in Kansas City, Mo., that supports career education, research and training for office professionals, in addition to housing assistance for those age 55 or older.
