LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Free medical screenings, premier health vendors and free backpacks for kids are just a few offerings of the 2nd Annual Long Beach Health and Wellness Community Fair which is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 10th, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Health and Wellness Fair will be held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church facilities, which are located at 741 East 10th Street, Long Beach, California.
This free community event in Long Beach has been organized to promote awareness of community health and wellness resources and provide basic education regarding the development of a healthy lifestyle. Free medical screenings will be offered for: glucose, stroke, HIV testing, dental health, glaucoma, asthma, hearing, bone density, skin issues and podiatry issues. A variety of health resources in Long Beach, California will have representatives available to share information and answer questions for those attending the Health and Wellness Fair. In addition to the Health and Wellness portion of the event, the historic church will offer free backpacks and supplies to school age children on a first-come first- serve basis. Prizes will also be raffled off throughout the event.
Nutritious snacks will be provided and ongoing entertainment is planned to keep the atmosphere celebratory and fun for the entire family. Short informational talks regarding various health and wellness issues will be given throughout the Community Health and Wellness Fair. Long Beach residents will have the opportunity to learn more about proper nutrition, diabetes, care of the elderly and back health, among other topics.
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, a recognized Historical Landmark in the City of Long Beach, has served the community for 60 years and is a primary sponsor of the community event, which is expected to be repeated on an annual basis. Some of the other major sponsors include Memorial Healthcare IPA, Saint Mary's Medical Center, the American Cancer Society and EmpowerCare, all of Long Beach.
