SAN FRANCISCO -- Math Champ Challenge is a new app from award winning INKids Education (http://www.inkidseducation.com/math-champ-challenge/) and contains 2500+ questions mapped to Common Core State Standards (http://www.corestandards.org).
The app - like many others - is designed to help strengthen understanding of mathematical principles. Uniquely though, Math Champ Challenge uses Game Center (Apple’s social gaming platform) to dish out awards, achievements and even merit badges for proficiency in specific curriculum areas - all mapped directly to Core Standards.

In a world first the developers of the app have designed gameplay so that social achievements are an integral part of the experience and not just a loose end - students can challenge their friends, classmates, or players all over the world in each grade’s Leaderboard to become the “Math Champ” - all within Game Center.
Students from grades 4-7 can also earn achievements for answering questions quickly, earning a sequence of questions correctly, or by answering questions across a particular Common Core Domain with accuracy over several levels.
“The app is designed to engage with a younger generation of players who are used to competing with Game Center in other casual games” said John McCann, the Director and Product Manager at INKids Education.
“We created Math Champ Challenge as way to make take a standard math quiz more fun and have tried to do something unique in the marketplace by matching the players achievements with standards from the new Common Core State Standards Initiative”.
Math Champ Challenge (which is available for iPhone and iPad) has already had over 5,000 downloads since it’s release in late July and is sure to be a hit with teachers heading back to school at the end of Summer holidays. With Common Core assessments being rolled out in 2014-15 this app will no doubt provide a fun way for students to study for exams and test their skills against other players.
As well as practical assessment tools, the app also features a “Skill Builder” featuring a Personal Learning Environment (or Adaptive Engine) and valuable feedback tools including practice suggestions for students at the end of each level.
