Online and print consumer magazine FinanceWorks.ca Quarterly in their most recent issue publishes an unprecedented comparison of 59 travel reward credit cards in Canada.
"We kept finding another card and another and before you know it we were looking at 59 cards.,” says magazine editor Bryan Dar Santos.
The search for Canada's best travel reward card has been attempted by countless Internet bloggers and most notably by MoneySense magazine that declared the Capital One Travel Aspire card as the best. What makes FinanceWorks.ca's analysis unique other than the number of cards surveyed is that more is considered than how many points are earned.
"You need to consider how much a point is worth, not only how many points you get. You also have to take into account other travel related benefits such as insurance, discounts and foreign exchange fees and since the credit card would be used for everyday spending you can't forget basic features such as extended warranties and price protection."
Included in the issue is a fold out chart comparing all 59 cards so readers don't have to rely on the magazine's conclusions and can pick a card that best suits their needs.
"Some people value free flights while others want travel insurance. If you are over 65 you'll find that most cards offer very little coverage."
So which is the best travel reward card? FinanceWorks.ca editor says you'll have to read the magazine to find out. The answer may very well surprise you.
The summer 2013 issue of FinanceWorks.ca Quarterly is available online now and expected due in store by mid July.
