BRISTOL, U.K. -- Helping unemployed people in the Bristol area get back into the jobs market is the aim of a new partnership between the city’s Job Centre Plus and Bedminster based training provider, S&B Automotive Academy.
Launched as part of the Government’s ‘Sector-Based Work Academies’ initiative for those aged over 19, who have been out of work for more than six months, a series of automotive courses is being run by S&B to give candidates ‘hands-on’ training in areas such as fast-fit tyres and exhaust replacement and basic vehicle servicing.
With twelve places available on each course, which lasts five weeks, candidates have the opportunity to learn valuable vocational skills whilst continuing to receive their benefits*. During this time, participants are able to achieve a unit from a Level 2 national qualification in Vehicle Fitting Principles.
As the leading motor vehicle training provider in the South West, S&B is best placed to train candidates to improve their employability. Commenting on the new link up with Job Centre Plus in Bristol, Tom May, Business Development Manager, S&B Automotive Academy, said:
“In addition to our core focus of training apprentices for a career within the UK automotive sector, helping local people to improve their chances of finding work and possibly a new career is very important too, which is why we’re pleased to be supporting Job Centre Plus and other work programmes around the South West.”
*Claimants will continue to receive their benefits whilst attending Sector Based Work Academies, provided they continue to meet the requirements of that benefit. The decision to participate is entirely voluntary, but once a claimant has accepted a place, attendance is mandatory. (For full terms and conditions please contact Job Centre Plus Bristol.)
