PARIS, France -- Summertime Publications will publish a short story in French for the first time using Amazon Kindle ebook publishing platform to ensure worldwide distribution.
The short story, "Belle-famille" by Marie Houzelle, will be released in French as a Kindle single in advance of the publication of the collection from which it is drawn, "A Paris maintenant".
"Belle-famille", which translates into English as "In-laws", is set against the backdrop of the formidable French tradition, the Sunday family lunch.
Out of their desire to respect their parents, Celine and Thibaut practice faith and tradition, showing up at the traditional French Sunday meal in spite of their growing resentment. One day Thibaut’s sister Celine announces her intention to marry a brute and to move to the other end of the earth.
When her sister-in-law becomes engaged to boorish Bernard, a young woman realizes the influence the antiquated values of her in-laws hold over her modern, daily life, and she finds herself paralyzed: trapped in a scene she didn’t think she was a part of. "In Marie Houzelle’s "Belle-famille", the voyeur is still part of the scene she sees, and family, like reality, proves inescapable."
"A subtle exploration of power, freedom and the responsibility of the observer."
