Regional Innovation Centre as facilitator for

Halton company Cinema Suite Inc.’s success.

Oakville, ON – HalTech Regional Innovation Centre, a resource for tech innovation and entrepreneurship in Halton, supports local company Cinema Suite’s success by facilitating key introductions to funding partners, sister regional innovation centre’s, as well as industry and educational partners.

“HalTech facilitated the formation of the relationships between Cinema Suite Inc. and both Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and Innovate Niagara.” says Karen Sievewright, President of HalTech. “By including Cinema Suite Inc. at Canada 3.0, we were able to start the relationship which has contributed to the companies success.”

HalTech’s relationships with industry and academic partners, including OCE, Innovate Niagara, Sheridan College (http://www.sheridancollege.ca) and Dr. Maria Karim CEO of TAD (Tactile Audio Displays Inc. (http://www.tadsinc.com)) were instrumental in assisting Cinema Suite Inc. with access to projects and funding.

For any digital media company, it is important to gain access to top of the line equipment as well as the opportunity to showcase their skills. For Cinema Suite Inc., this opportunity came when their software project was funded through OCE-CONII (Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation, which is dedicated to connecting business to the applied research expertise of Ontario’s college). The result was Sheridan’s Faculty of Applied Science and Technology working together with Javelin, the parent company of Cinema Suite Inc., to develop the motion capture and video tools to take Cinema Suite Inc. to the next level.

HalTech, which works closely both with Javelin and Sheridan College, was able to offer further support by helping to write a grant proposal, continuing to source beneficial relationships and by accessing the ONE network and introducing Cinema Suite Inc. to sister RIC, Innovate Niagara. It was at Innovate Niagara that Cinema Suite Inc. was able to access the Canadian Digital Media Network and the soft landing program (a program that offers qualified, mature startups and SMEs exposure to an economy-of-interest by providing them the opportunity to take residence in a partnered facility that can offer the regional support required to help them grow their business for up to three months) which expanded their network internationally.

This has, in turn, helped us develop a collaborative relationship with the Sheridan Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT). These relationships have been integral to the growth and development of Cinema Suite Inc. and in taking it to the next level, " says Ben Sainsbury, co-founder of Cinema Suite Inc.
