Oklahoma home service experts urge homeowners to install generators before storm season

Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric says whole-home generators keep necessary electric equipment running and increase property values

TULSA, Okla., March 7, 2025 - April is traditionally the start of an active season for storms in Oklahoma and the owners of Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric, a leading HVAC, plumbing and electric service company located in Glenpool, say homeowners should prepare by installing a whole-home generator.

"Unfortunately, April brings a lot of severe storms to Oklahoma, and many people are left without power for days after these storms hit," said Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric vice president and co-owner Cassie Pound. "Being without power is not just inconvenient, it can be far more serious if you or a family member must depend on electricity to run a medical device, such as an oxygen generator or ventilator."

Oklahoma and the rest of the central United States experience peak tornado activity between April and June, while other parts of the Midwest see more storms later in the summer.

Pound said homeowners can choose between portable generators or have a stationary unit professionally installed.

"Portable generators are helpful, but whole-home generators are safer and more reliable," she said. "And spring is an ideal time to have a whole-home generator installed because many home service companies are in between the busier winter and summer seasons and have more availability."

Quality President and co-owner Oscar Pound added that installing a generator before the storm season gives homeowners the time to familiarize themselves with the equipment so they know how to properly use it during an emergency.

"A generator can also save your family money and provide you with peace of mind," he said. "For example, homeowners can continue to run their appliances to keep food from spoiling. You'll also be able to regulate the temperature in your home and keep your home security system activated. A whole-home generator can even add value to your property."

According to Consumer Reports, a professionally installed, whole-home generator can increase a home's value by 3-5% and is a good return on investment option.
