OSWEGO, NY, February 01, 2025 - Luciano J. Iorizzo, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Iorizzo attended St. Francis College for one semester and then transferred to Brooklyn College. The Korean War then broke out interrupting his schooling and he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. Upon completing his military service in 1955, he relocated to Syracuse, New York, where his wife encouraged him to resume his studies. He earned a BA, magna cum laude, in 1957, followed by an MA in history (his theses was on German invetsments in American railroads, which opened his eyes to the vast number of immigrants who were settling in middle America). He continued his studies eaning a PhD in history, specializing in immigration. He also earned two degrees from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs @ Syracuse University in political studies.

Drawing on his considerable educational resume, Dr. Iorizzo combined his interest in education and his love of history into his role as a history professor at the State University of New York at Oswego, where he is now an emeritus professor. Upon his retirement in 1992, a group of students encouraged him to establish the Professor Emeritus Luciano J. Iorizzo scholarship for criminal justice seniors in need of financial support. He fully supported the effort.

In addition to his primary vocation, he has contributed to several publications, including "You Are Lucky, Luciano: The Story of Luciano J. Iorizzo," his autobiography, and "The Italian Americans," which he co-wrote with Salvatore Mondello. Similarly, Dr. Iorizzo edited such works as "Italian POWs Speak Out at Last: Italian Prisoners of War Break Their Silence," was interviewed for the Veterans History Project Collection, which is housed in the Libabry of Congress, and contributed to the American Folklife Center.

Dr. Iorizzo was among a small group of scholars who founded the American Italian Historical Association in 1966. In recognition of his considerable achievements, he was inducted into the Faculty Hall of Fame at the State University of New York at Oswego in 2013. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in writing an article for a prominent encyclopedia about Italian-American businesspeople and wrote a piece on organized crime. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to Ms. Nichols, his fourth-grade teacher, and Brother Bernadine, his eighth-grade teacher. Within the coming years, Dr. Iorizzo aims to leverage his expertise by giving speaking engagements on politics, immigration and organized crime.
