SHERWOOD, OR, January 31, 2025 - Ryan C. Barnes, chief executive officer of STUDSON Inc., was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Pacific Northwest Edition of The Wall Street Journal, published on January 30, 2025.
For more than two decades, Mr. Barnes has been immersed in the action and outdoor sports industry. In 2019, he channeled his passion for safety and innovation and founded STUDSON Inc., a company dedicated to revolutionizing head protection for industrial and construction workers. Through this enterprise, he strives to safeguard the lives of industrial workers and is committed to addressing the holistic health and welfare of this workforce. Mr. Barnes' extensive involvement in action sports, including outdoor skiing, and two decades of expertise collaborating with firms specializing in safety products equipped him with a keen understanding of safety equipment head protection that galvanized his career path and pushed him toward entrepreneurship.
Prior to STUDSON, Mr. Barnes worked for a Swedish brand that specialized in cutting-edge protective gear for gravity sports. During this time, he recognized a glaring stagnation of innovation within the industrial markets, particularly in the design of hard hats, which first emerged in 1919. Noting the minimal evolution of hard hats during the past century, he recognized a need for upgrades in the harness-system helmet. Given that industrial incidents increasingly involved slips, trips and falls as a leading cause of traumatic brain injuries, he set out to disrupt the status quo, which led him to create STUDSON. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, his team successfully conceived, engineered and introduced their inaugural product in 2021. Alongside his professional achievements, he holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of Oregon.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Barnes considers STUDSON his most remarkable achievement. Fueled by an unshakeable belief in the life-saving capabilities of technology, he has positioned his company as an industry trailblazer. Through ceaseless innovation, they have introduced revolutionary personal protective equipment (PPE) solutions, swiftly establishing them as the top choice in the industry. Since its inception, STUDSON has incorporated two unique technologies, Twiceme and Koroyd, and perfected the fit of its helmets, a significant challenge in safety helmet manufacturing. STUDSON's dedication has earned prestigious recognition, including the Makers and Manufacturers Awards from Portland Business Journal, the BLT Built Design Award, the NED Innovation Award, and the Pro Tool Innovation Award. In addition, Mr. Barnes is scheduled to feature in the documentary news show "The View Point" with Dennis Quaid.
Looking to the future, Mr. Barnes and his team have developed an extensive roadmap for new products, seeking to address issues such as heat stress, cold weather, style and comfort. The company's current product line includes helmets, associated accessories, and ear and eye protection. STUDSON has joined the American Heart Association as a sponsor, enabling the association to purchase cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) kits for utilization in training, complementing STUDSON's mission to save lives. For Mr. Barnes, preserving even a single life justifies every endeavor, rendering his work profoundly impactful.
