DARIEN, IL, January 31, 2025 - William O. White has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A leader in the areas of competitive intelligence and global technologies for plant automation, Mr. White has distinguished himself through his long career at the USG Corporation, a manufacturer of construction materials and the largest gypsum producer in the world. In his capacity as the vice president of advanced technology, he is primarily responsible for market profile preparation, analyzing developing trends in the housing and retail industry, and evaluating distribution activities.
Initially joining the USG Corporation in 1972, Mr. White has led a remarkable career at the company, with significant achievements to his credit in various roles over the course of five decades. Beginning as a quality project engineer, he subsequently advanced to a number of superintendent positions and managerial titles, culminating in his ascension to director of operations in 1987. Following this period, he took over managing duties for the company in Aubange, Belgium, in 1992, and later served as the director of technical services in 1997 and vice president of new technologies in 2004. Mr. White accepted his current position in 2008.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. White is proud to have led the engineering plant that first produced Durock, a revolutionary cement board, during the 1980s. Most notably, he was only 31 years old at the time of this milestone. Furthermore, in addition to the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering he obtained from the University of Maryland in 1972, he was also gratified to leverage the MBA he earned from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. To wit, he applied these valuable lessons in his role as a managing director in Belgium, where he reversed substantial monthly losses and achieved profitability within a year and a half. Mr. White's strategic vision in other projects, such as the creation of an ultralight wallboard in 2010, has continued to showcase his ability to lead effective teams and spearhead new initiatives.
In accounting for his success, Mr. White largely credits the fact that the USG Corporation has continually supplied him with fresh and interesting challenges, all of which have given him ample opportunity to demonstrate his problem-solving skills and find innovative solutions. He also takes great pleasure in sharing his hard-won knowledge with others through mentorship and guidance, through which he works to instill younger employees with the belief that they, too, can overcome any obstacle in their path.
Looking toward the future, Mr. White intends to remain active in his profession before his retirement in 2026 - in the meantime, he looks forward to attending industry conferences, where he delights in reconnecting with colleagues and earning recognition for a lifetime spent in service to his field.
