Raymond Ervin Cain, Jr., Ph.D. Celebrated for Dedication to the Fields of Ministry and Education

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, December 23, 2024 - Dr. Raymond Ervin Cain, Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Previously, he honed his expertise in education as an assistant professor of aviation at the University of Central Missouri and as a campus academic dean at Westwood College. Similarly, Dr. Cain worked as associate professor and dean of Aviation at Florida Memorial University (FMU), a Historically Black College and University, assistant professor of aviation at Western Michigan University, lecturer at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), and instructional associate and supervisor of the Aviation Learning Center at Long Beach City College (LBCC).

His extensive educational background underpins Dr. Cain's expertise. He holds an Associate of Science in Aviation from LBCC, a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from CSULA, and a Master of Arts with Special Recognition in Graduate Studies in Industrial and Technical Studies from CSULA. His pursuit of knowledge continued with a Ph.D. in Career and Technical Education at the University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou). During that time, he completed the dissertation "The Relationships of Metacognition, Self-Efficacy, and Educational and/or Flight Experience to Situation Awareness in Aviation Students." This academic journey has equipped Dr. Cain with the skills and knowledge to excel in his field.

Driven to stay abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Cain aligned himself with the following professional organizations: the African American Education Association; the Association of Black Graduate & Professional Students; Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA); the Association for Aviation Psychology (AAP); Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI); Diversity in Aviation Consortium (Co-Founder); Greater Miami Aviation Association (Past Secretary, Executive Committee, Board of Directors); Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES); Negro Airmen International (NAI); Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP); Phi Delta Kappa; Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (TAI); University Aviation Association (UAA—Past Secretary and Past Chair, Aviation Education Committee); and the following honor societies: Alpha Eta Rho, Epsilon Pi Tau, Golden Key, Kappa Omicron Nu, and Phi Kappa Phi.

Dr. Cain's outstanding achievements have not gone unnoticed. Over his decades-long career, he has been honored with numerous awards, a testament to his dedication to professional excellence. These include being named an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1987 and receiving several scholarships and fellowships, including the Associated Students Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship, California State University (CSU) Doctoral Incentive Program, CSU Graduate Equity Fellowship, CSU Pre–Doctoral Scholar, GTE Minority Scholarship, Lois Bryant Memorial Endowment, Los Angeles Transportation Club Scholarship, Pacific Bell Scholarship, Parsons Brinkerhoff/DMJM Engineering Management Consultant Team Scholarship, Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship, and the Gus T. Ridgel Doctoral Fellowship.

His commitment to his field was further recognized with the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Florida Memorial University's School of Aviation and Safety, the Black Achiever Award from the Family Christian Association of America, and the CSULA Alumni Certificate of Honor. Dr. Cain takes great pride in these accolades. Still, his most cherished moments include establishing The Institute for Studies in Practical Spirituality, Inc. and leading the Aviation program at FMU, which received a generous grant ($4,450,000.00) from the United States Air Force to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in military and civil aviation.

Looking towards the future, Dr. Cain, a certified commercial pilot and certified ground instructor, is excited about the next chapter of The Institute for Studies in Practical Spirituality, Inc. His vision includes establishing a robust online presence to reach a wider audience, securing a school building, and providing better accessibility to educational resources. Additionally, Dr. Cain is finishing his first book, which will serve as a foundational pillar of the Institute's curriculum, a project that he is deeply passionate about.
