BioMarine 2013 Halifax: Call for Projects for the Innovation Forum

BioMarine™ is calling for applications for the Innovation Forum, a showcase of innovations in marine bio resources and biotechnology to be held during the 2013 BioMarine™ Business Convention in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 9-12 September, 2013. Co-organized with the National Research Council of Canada, the Innovation Forum presents novel ideas to a motivated international audience looking for new markets, collaborators, partners, or investment prospects. The Innovation Forum is is being introduced this year to the BioMarine™ Business Convention to stimulate advancements in this important and rapidly growing industry sector.

According to BioMarine ™ founder and Chairman Pierre Erwes, “The rapid growth of our industry is principally based on entrepreneurs and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises that strive to advance research and innovation in the world of bio marine resources, shipping, marine renewable energy and maritime. These firms are the seedbed of our development and it is crucial to support them and help them develop.”

Criteria

To align with the selected themes of BioMarine 2013, innovators in the following bio-marine sector categories can apply to showcase their ideas:

Marine natural products

Innovative technology, research application or material derived from sea water, marine bacteria, algae, micro algae, macro algae, seaweeds, or fish by-products.

Aquaculture and aquafeed

Innovative technology or research application related to the health, nutrition, production, breeding and selection of fish, shellfish and molluscs.

Marine biotechnologies

Innovative technology or research application related to marine environment, clean technology, healthcare, drug development, personal care, etc.

Proposals must involve discrete research and development projects at early or late stage research and identify the challenges or opportunities addressed; have the potential for commercialization; contain a compelling project management strategy; engage research team members who are recognized by their peers as leaders in their field; and use original and innovative science and technology to carry out the research.

Eligibility

Any institution, non-profit organization or private sector company can apply.

Application

Participants do not have to register for the BioMarine™ 2013 convention to apply unless they are selected to present during the Innovation Forum. More information is available at www.biomarine.org. Applications can be submitted online or directed to biomarine2013@nrc.gc.ca.

The BioMarine™ convention’s strong track record in attracting the bio resource industry sector’s top executives and investors in events since 2008 helps to accelerate business opportunities between participating small and medium-sized enterprises and larger corporations. The convention’s mission is to champion expansion of marine bio- resources industry sectors.
