In her role as the head of the company, Ms. Sarbu has established Waldo as an International Baccalaureate accredited and certified school and offers over $350,000 every year in scholarships for children and families who are less fortunate. She focuses on transforming the middle school curriculum with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), public speaking and drama skills. In addition to running the international school for 13 years, she also opened the Waldo Preschool, which centers around children's social and emotional development, in 2020.
Known for her professional longevity, Ms. Sarbu's storied career encompasses a wide range of roles and expertise. She began her journey in 2006 by working as the business development account executive at CN United States of America International for four years. During that time, she conceptualized and established Waldo International School and has served as its leader for 14 years. In 2018, she expanded her entrepreneurial endeavors by opening Café Esme LLC, a French-style café that serves various types of coffee, tea and juice and provides jazz-based entertainment on weekends during the summer.
Originally from Romania, Ms. Sarbu pursued her academic goals at the Academia de Studii Economice din Bucuresti and earned a bachelor's degree in international relations and affairs in 2005. To augment her experience, she was also certified in critical thinking and psychology of leadership by eCornell and in entrepreneurship essentials by Harvard Business School Online.
Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Ms. Sarbu has served as a member of the board of trustees at the University of Phoenix since 2015 and has been a board member of the Youth Foundation of Jersey City, which provides grants, scholarships and a wide range of creative experiences for children, since 2023. Her dedication to the community was recognized when she received the "We Speak Her Name" award at the Women Empowerment Gala organized by the Jersey City Council President Joyce Watterman in 2024 for her contributions to the Jersey City community. Additionally, her leadership at Waldo International School led to a Special Senate Recognition for the school's Middle School in 2022.
Though her career is filled with major milestones and individual achievements, Ms. Sarbu is especially proud of opening and establishing Waldo International School. Despite facing many hurdles and setbacks, she stayed true to her vision of making a meaningful impact on her community and helping the students and families who need it the most. Her journey was equally a result of unwavering spirit and devotion and the desire to create a new educational institution.
