As Airtricity announce an equal increase in the electricity prices to PowerNI, of almost 18%, despite the outcry from all sections of Northern Ireland, from politicians and business owners to the elderly and family poverty groups, what is clear is that Budget Energy, the 3rd place player in the Northern Ireland electricity market has stolen a massive pr lead.

It is now common knowledge that not only is there an alternative to PowerNI and Airtricity, but that the alternative is a lot cheaper, as things stand today.

The only question will be, how long can they afford to be a lot cheaper if indeed all suppliers are having to pay more for wholesale electricity, and how much damage can Budget Energy do to the Airtricity and PowerNI duopoly in the meantime.

One thing for sure is that for electricity bill payers in Northern Ireland, is that this will be a space worth watching!
