Concurrently, Ms. Ferguson has been serving as a nurse liaison for the United States Department of Defense since 2003, where she maintains responsibility for the effective execution and operations of medical missions, as well as administrative compliance with legislative intent in DoD-level presentations. Ms. Ferguson's rich background in program management and congressional complaints, through which she has managed various pilot programs and changes as requested by legislative bodies, has been vital to her service as a legal nurse consultant.
Ms. Ferguson's career began at the Grand Island VA Medical Center in Nebraska, where she worked as a staff nurse in the medical-surgical department from 1993 to 1997. Following this appointment, she relocated to Maryland and continued her work in the emergency department of the Level II Trauma Center at the Baltimore VA Medical Center until 2003. Her dedication and expertise led her to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she served as a staff nurse between 2003 and 2007 as the first civilian head nurse in the military's emergency department. Ms. Ferguson then transitioned to a leadership role in 2007 as the director of nursing at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the United States Defense Health Agency Emergency Department, holding this position until 2015. Her exemplary performance in the field earned her a transfer to the Regional Health Command Atlantic at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as a senior nurse consultant for program management in primary care medical home between 2015 and 2020.
Ms. Ferguson's educational background includes an associate degree in nursing from Central Community College in Grand Island, Nebraska. Subsequently, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Phoenix. She also holds certifications as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and legal nurse consultant.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Ferguson has been recognized for her invaluable contributions. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the DAISY Foundation, as well as two Meritorious Civilian Service Awards and a Commander's Award for Civilian Service.
