Pacific Northwest Filmmakers Return To Roots With Crowdfunding Campaign

Port Townsend, WA (WEB) May 31, 2013 -- The world of independent film has always been powered by the passion of extremely dedicated individuals. Filmmakers Alex Meader and Connor Hair are no exception to this rule. For their next film project, The World’s Last Plastic Bag Tree, Meader and Hair hope to give viewers a glimpse of their childhood in rural Western Washington through the eyes of three best friends in their last summer of High School.

In order to move the project forward, the filmmakers are raising funds to shoot a teaser using the increasingly popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter.com. When asked about their reasons for using Kickstarter, Meader and Hair replied, “We feel that Kickstarter provides a great platform for us to get our project out there and share it with people. It really helps build a sense of community around the project, which is a powerful thing.”

Like all Kickstarter campaigns, The World’s Last Plastic Bag Tree has a time limit in which to raise it’s funding, otherwise all pledges made will be refunded to the donors. In this case the time limit is 14 days. While certainly making their endeavor more stressful, Hair explains that the time limit which Kickstarter provides is actually a very positive force in many ways, “There’s a sense of urgency the time limit adds which helps get people excited about the project. I feel like it also helps to drive our team to work even harder and come up with more and more creative ways to try to promote the project, which is a great thing.”

The World’s Last Plastic Bag Tree is a film about the end of childhood, and about the things we leave behind when we grow up. For Meader and Hair, shooting in rural Western Washington was a very key element to the film. “There’s something very special about Western Washington for us,” remarks Meader, “We grew up there, and that’s where this story comes from. So it’s very important that we shoot the film there. Filming for the teaser is slated to take place on a beach in the small community of Port Townsend, WA.
