Kim Turner grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida, and settled again in Jacksonville to raise a family. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, Kim was free to pursue, in a more dedicated way, her two interests – supporting local African American history and helping at-risk children.
