In addition to his primary role, Mr. Rhodes has been the youth and community engagement director for the Whole Cyber Human Initiative since 2021. Before his current positions, he served as a cybersecurity researcher at Stephenson Technologies Corporation from 2021 to 2023. He also held the role of senior cybersecurity engineer at Northrop Grumman & Peraton from 2020 to 2021 and at Lockheed Martin from 2019 to 2020. Additionally, he was a senior cybersecurity specialist at Information Technology Engineering Corporation from 2018 to 2019.
Mr. Rhodes' extensive military background includes serving as an assistant special agent in charge and digital forensic examiner for the U.S. Army from 2017 to 2018. Before this, he was a senior digital forensic examiner from 2010 to 2018 and a special agent concurrently from 2009 to 2018. His roles in the military further included information system security manager from 2015 to 2018, satellite communications specialist from 2008 to 2009 and Russian linguist from 2000 to 2005. He retired from the military having achieved the status of chief warrant officer II in 2014.
Mr. Rhodes' journey into cybersecurity began with his role as a Criminal Investigation Division special agent for the U.S. Army where he delved into digital forensics and information system security management. His subsequent civilian career in cybersecurity is marked by multiple significant achievements. Notably, he manually reverse-engineered satellite commanding and telemetry to create signatures for monitoring network traffic and preventing unauthorized satellite access.
Mr. Rhodes' academic credentials include a Master of Science in cybersecurity from Excelsior University in 2021, a Bachelor of Science from the same institution in 2017 and an Associate of Arts in Russian language from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in 2001. He also holds several certifications, including certified information system security professional from the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, certified vehicle system forensic examiner from Berla Corporation, certified data privacy solutions engineer from Information Systems Audit and Control Association and Microsoft-certified solutions associate from Microsoft.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rhodes has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Technical Innovation Award from Lockheed Martin in 2020 and the Excellence in Public Service Award for Military Service from the Federal Executive Association of El Paso in 2014. His military honors include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, two Joint Service Achievement Medals, three Army Achievement Medals and four Army Good Conduct Medals, among others.
Furthering his expertise, Mr. Rhodes is actively involved with several prominent organizations, such as Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, the High Technology Crime Investigation Association and the Porsche Club of America. He also contributes to civic-minded organizations like Idaho National Laboratories' Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity Operations Program and is a mentor at both Veterati and VetsinTech.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Rhodes attributes his success to the guidance of his parents and the support of his wife. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue a PhD in cybersecurity while advancing into a senior managerial or executive capacity, such as chief information security officer. He also aims to guide his children toward successful futures.
